For the love I could not give
Can you forgive me?
For the heart that no longer belongs to me
Would that I had a thousand hearts
A thousand loves
So I could return your love
You gave me your heart
But alas, I have nothing to give
You came too late
A thousand hearts makes each one meaningless
A thousand loves is spread too thin
So I give you my tears
For tears are as endless as the sea
And are not weakened by their numbers
A tear for each love I could not return
Tears to replace hearts
Salt water instead of blood
Feel the sting all the same
But know it is the sting of regret
Because I have only one heart to give

This was a wonderful write as are all
of your poems. I will forgive her but first
her memory has to fade a little. She needs
to become more of an abstraction in my mind.
Right now , however , I'm taking a little time
and letting myself feel a little angry with her.
Thank you for this writing though. Truly , Doug

Oh my .. what a twist on the perspective. How beautiful to read this!
When we hear of someone suffering from unrequited love, we
forget that the object of their affection may be struggling with feelings
of guilt and sorrow as well. I love the line about giving your tears
because you cannot give your heart. That is so damn poetic.

Kudos for bringing attention to the "other side of the coin"
rarely seen by those who are suffering a broken heart.

Wonderfully written. BRAVO!

~Breezy

Yes, it is interesting to see the other side of the story for once.
I love all the repetition in this, it really emphasises the anguish and uncertainty.

Good write,
Dom
