has faded into the night
what happened
to my once great sight
as I sit here in the night
wishing I could see the light
to my delight
I hear such a sight but
where is the light
I sit still to listen
for the sound of light
to my disamy
there is no such light
to give me back my sight
to which my life revolved around
so now I sit in
my darkness alone all night
but there is never
a glimmer of light
to tell me when
the night has ended
the light never comes
to my sight
so I will forever sit
in the night
hardly amongst the living

Oh man, this was GUT WRENCHING!

oh contraire though ... I believe the blind are VERY much among the living.
Oh what an extraordinary gift just being ALIVE is!! Yes there
are and will always be obstacles .. but you know .. I fair pity more to those that
cannot see and have full use of both eyes!! tis a sad thing ...

still, the piece was beautiful woven and wonderfully expressed. A real
tear jerker in spots. Having no physical handicaps, I cannot
really expect to understand the gravity of the adjustments necessary
to cope with everyday living ... BUT, I would like to quote my beautiful
ludwig .. (who wrote the most adoring music even after deafness had claimed him)

“I shall, if I can, defy this fate, even though there will be times when I shall be the
unhappiest of God’s creatures .... I will seize Fate by the throat. It will not wholly conquer me!
Oh, how beautiful it is to live - and live a thousand times over!” ~ Beethoven

excellent post!

I see that you have tried to capture some of the feelings of being blind. The blind people that I have met in my long life have all told me of their wonderful dreams. Hearing is another blessing that most blind people seem to have unwittingly developed and can hear even whispered conversations from a distance. It is however a very dificult subject to write about try the same poem again after speaking with some blind people many are pleased when one gets into conversation with them. friendly greetings from bern.
