You can’t help but flick your gaze
Towards a horizon where dew gilds the grass,
And further out ferries drift ethereally
In a summer morning’s haze.
It can almost be tasted on the wind,
Sweetness that lingers on your tongue.
Under my feet the hot tarmac hums
Of places and wheels and dog-eared maps,
All the roads chorusing.
I like this air.
It is a knife’s edge
Between the descent and the return,
An intake of breath before the slow exhalation.
I am gloriously aware of the seconds
As the wheels slot with the road like cogs

hmmmmm Dom .. sounds like vacation or bust! lol

perfect imagery here and such a delightfully poetic way
to piece them together. :)

it almost has a nostalgic feel to it. I am in reminiscence of
bygone summer days of childhood and all the smells that
caught my nose by surprise .... funny how one smell can
bring back a flood of memories ~

Wow. Thanks for the walk down nostalgia lane :D

I'm w/ Jecks insofar as, 'Anticipation', was the common denominator
in my own thoughts pertaining to this write & I more than loved this
reminder of my own roadtrippin' daze...er, um, I
meant, 'days', teehee...

"Of places and wheels and dog-eared maps,
All the roads chorusing."~you

but, in all seriousness I really did enjoy this descriptive expression

Right on, write on...

A perfect sharing of a moment truly savoured. Scenic, aromatic, even audio comes through in this perfect piece.
Of places and wheels and dog-eared maps,
I can really relate to this line esp. Have a few of those dog eared maps myself.
