MORNING LIGHT

Contributed by 4thhorseman on Sunday, 15th July 2007 @ 05:13:43 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

the water and the trees across the distant shore slowly coming into view

as i sit all alone on that cold cold morning,

the chilled air that lingered for what seemed like a lifetime with a mind of its own reaching over my already freezing body

it was a struggle of will against nature, and i would not let the cold stop me from missing this, nothing would

as i lay down on the sandy shore i cleared my head of any thought or feeling that did not involve where i was at

a faint breaze ran through all the trees around me, every tree that this quiet breaze touched seemed to almost give new life to the tall giants that have been around for centurys, it was almost as if this very breaze gave the trees around me the courage to wake up from there eternal slumber to meet the day just as i had

off in the distance a slow gray giant made its way very wearily and sluggish across the surface of the still water, consuming all in its montrous path, as if coming for me, reaching out just for me, this thing deafened every bit of life around me, silenced it, crushed the serenity of it, as if its only purpose was to destroy anything peacefull and serene almost a natural plague that the only thing it killed was happiness

the trees stopped moving, stopped there hushed whispers, its as if the trees themselves were frightened of this, but i would not, i would sit unwavering as this thing slowly crept towards me, reaching into my soul if i would not stand up to this thing what would? its almost as if deep down my purpose my only true purpose was to give these trees hope and to show them not to be afraid

but all for not, this thing consumed me, the sand i sat on, and everything around me, and to my dismay, the breaze did not come back, the trees did not once again continue whispering, the life around me never came back

at this point i would give anything, anything to break the silence, but i did not dare speak or make any noise at all, because deep down i was afraid, that this thing would turn its full attention to me and i would be forever silenced and afraid just as everything around me had

and its almost as my prayer was answered almost instantly a sound that cracked through this horrible thing like lighting, almost as if a noble knight in shining armor fought a dragon in a never ending battle , this one simple sound made courage flow through me to see this thing to the end, gave me strength to hold my ground

and almost as if the trees and everything around me felt the same thing i did, the breaze came back stronger than ever, the trees where no long whispering but yelling, and almost as if life had come back to everything around me, all of us working together for one simple purpose,to defeat this thing that lingered before us

its almost as if this gray beast was put into a state of shock and confusion, all these forces were ready to take a stand against it, it was almost as if it all of us united drained this wretched thing of its power, the tables finally turned, and this thing slowly retracted into itself hoping for some sort of defense, and in a glorious moment it dissapeared much faster than it had came

the distant shore came back into view much brighter, much more clearer and on the far far horizon, what iv waited so long for a horizontal line of gold, and yellow, and orange washed over the horizon, as the beast retreated back to its resting place so did the cold, and the chill disapeared as if it were never there, the beams of light soon got bigger and brighter and washed over me, almost as if it watched the whole time what the cold did to me, it felt is if almost a warm smooth hand went over my whole body no longer was i cold, no longer was a chilled, and no longer was i afraid

the moment had come that i waited so long for, for the drowsy sun to peak its head up over the horizon, but i was left with one question, "what was that noise i heard that made this demon retreat? what made it leave when it was almost won? i checked all the sides of the shore....... nothing, no ripples on the glass water, once again my hope was gone forever finding my savior, for some reason something stopped me from leaving, something deep down wanted to stay until i found this thing, no matter how long it took, and again the noise echoed threw the air, softer not as loud as it was with the gray demon

i looked all around .......still nothing, then i thought to myself theres one place i still hadnt looked, as i slowly tilted my chin upward the light touching my eyes and my face, i had to squint to see it, circling overhead there it was! it was a bird, a simple bird i thought to myself, but i soon noticed that it was a loon, i wondered to myself how could such a beautiful peacefull bird have such a thunderous call? i wondered what gave that bird courage to stand up against the gray demon? this is one of lifes many mysteries, and who am i to question that, all i could do was smile as the bird slowly got smaller in the distance flying towards the sun, almost a messenger sent from the sun itself to let all who were alive and awake know, that the sun would grace this world with its presence, the bird as if returning to its master dissapeared forever

i took one last look around me smiled and sighed, and i said outloud as if everything could hear me, iv learned there are some things in life that cant be explained that we should cherish every moment we have, before its gone

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
