but since I am only sixteen, you believe I have gone through very little throughout my short life.
I am not part of that "age stereotype".
The experiences in my life have been heart-wrenching, life altering, and made me reconsider the point of life.

Because, well, let’s face it, dealing with a suicide really changes one’s view on life.
After watching a friend kill herself, you don’t really see a reason to continue on.

Loving a man, not a boy, for over ten years, that’s pretty significant.
And when my fourth year anniversary is coming up in less than a month,
It makes me think how that’s longer than most marriages.

Oh, and let’s not forget the attack that left more than physical scars.
Do you know what it’s like to see yourself beaten and bloody?
I do.

Adults: Come to me after being beaten, truly heart-broken, watching a friend kill herself, and being utterly alone in a room with over 20 people,
And tell me how insignificant your life is.

I’m sick and tired of stupid “adults” telling me High School isn’t that important
And that
Teenagers are overdramatic and emotional
Or that
Teens have yet to experience real life.

Do you see now?
We all go through hard times and age has NOTHING to do with it.

Yes, I am sixteen.
That’s sixteen years of pain, love, hate, joy, deep feeling, and bad times.

The expression of your feelings are felt in this write. I am sorry that you have gone through some hardships in your sixteen years of life. May you one day find peace and joy you seek in your heart. Take care young lady.

You tell 'em.. I am 18 and I have been through so much already too.. And I think that it is unfair for adults to sit and say things like that.. They don't know what we must go through everyday.. They only know what they must go through.. Powerful write.. Honest and raw.. Great poem..

Take care
Christina
