He…
is a half-wit,
half unwittingly afraid…
afraid of sleep,
the other half,
full-well knowing
that at some point
he will have to…
(half too?)
He very nearly drowned
once, or maybe twice?
Those recollections
were emblazoned upon a
young, impressionable mind,
and he remembers…
all those things that
sleep might bring and
strolling through the
turbulent dream-scape
of his mind, where
black rainbows arc’d
magestically across
a tortured sky.
He fell into a pool
of pity and lost his breath,
and as with all such things
so traumatic, cannot recall
the grace that saved him…
only that he was.
Ultimately, with each fall
his growth was stunted,
for he never truly learned
that he could indeed swim.
So now he lives in fear
of sleep walking…
into water.

Nazzy your writing goes deep, deep, deep into the waters of life and still comes up to the shore.
Great writing, my friend as always.
huggs, smiles,

Witty. I'm not much of a somnambulist, so i'm personally more afraid of water sleepwalking into me. A well-told story with several possible interpretations. You use your vague points and symbolism well, and your restraint (it's so easy to overdo the nebulous) is what makes this poem. Nicely done.

BZ.

Well written piece. Most enjoyable line..he fell into a pool of self pity and lost his breath and as with all such things so traumatic, cannot recall the grace that saved him...only that he was.I think many can recall this space and be held in fear indefinately. Fear will forever hold us back until mastered.
Very thought provoking to me.

Yet again you reached into the depths of inner most thought, leaving a trail of thoughts to ponder on. Oh yes and fear itself, gripping .
Well I wont babble on, as always I loved it!

Wow. As usual my brother, you have blown me away with your writing. (I do so love it.) I'm thinking so hard in my own mind, (just where this piece took me), about extinguishing fears, living with them is treacherous, though it seems so hard to tread water sometimes. Enjoyed the read.
Peace, Laura

Amazing! You sir, have a talent I most definitely am envious of in many ways. Not quite sure yet what to say about this piece, so another comment will come. But I could not let this night pass without telling you that I was floored and completely thrilled to read this work.

BRAVO!
