I spread the brochures from the departments in front of me
It’s like an a la carte menu of academia
Immediately I remove biology-
I don’t do cadavers.
After another hour of dreaming
Only two majors really stick out to me
Accounting and Philiosophy
my mind ran over the parallel
allowing my mind to
measure the pending hours
My bones growing hunched over
a sea of numbers
Accounting?
What would I have the energy to
even spend my money on?
But philosophy- now there is something practical
something worth knowing
I imagined myself
a wise sage in all situations
a guided soul who could acknowledge
that there is the possibility
that another could have thoughts
greater than my own
Philosophy is what guides us
what helps us make decisions
sometimes playing it safe doesn’t make
as much sense as I thought
but hey
a girl’s gotta eat. Why not play it safe?
and contrary to popular belief
it was creativity that killed the cat
because it went hungry
