Are you as untamable as the wild beast?
O so uncontrollable and uninhibited,
Yet ignorant of the self-harm you will inflict.
I tell you, 'You can't love her",
But you seem to ignore my advice,
Desiring to take that plunge
Into a river full of unfeeling ice.

O Heart, why don't you understand?
You could love anyone else.
Yet, you always revert back
To your infactuation with another you can't have.
Your desire is misplaced; your hope is misguided;
Your love will be disastrous and will destroy you!

O Heart, why can't you accept that she's happy?
Are you that conceited and jealous
That you would trump others for your own desires?
O Heart, betray me not to do things that I shouldn't!
Leave it be, I beg of you, leave it be!
You and I will love her secretly.
And she'll never know, what she means to me...

Oh my heavens!! The torture of a secret love .. agonizing!!

Your last stanza was so enitrely gripping. This had an
essence of Shakespeare dancing around it. (I ADORE that!).
The title drew me to the piece .. I think many are made to
suffer the battle between heart and mind. I used to joke
about my heart behaving recklessly and then my mind
having to send it to its room for a while ... but it never
learned, just as your poem suggests.

Excellent post. So full of emotion and a longing
that seemingly cannot be tamed. Oh, how we do
love to torture ourselves ...

Ah, the ol' so familiar battle between the mind and the heart. You write about it so very well too in a nicely done style. Very well done.

Thank you for an enjoyable read.
