we've searched far and wide the seven seas,
only to find no cure, no peace.
this illness, this cancer, will not cease

with windless sails and aching hearts,
we set the ship ablaze.

as the mast collapsed in fiery remains,
not one eye turned it's tearful gaze.

cherry embers perish into the emerald bay,

and as this ship does fade away,
in the distance we heard him say:

sorrow sinks in the sea tonight,
God looked away to the Devil's delight!

what a sight to see,
you fools! now you hear me...
cast not your hopes on selfish things,
for this be a metaphore, a foreshadowing .
the funeral pyre is at hand.
futile! your attempts to cure this land.

doomed are we all to squirm in death's grip!
so to the thought of immortality,
may you never again let one wish slip! [comments] => 4 [counter] => 368 [topic] => 43 [informant] => outdoorsman [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => oops )

You have wrapped your musing on death in beautiful, bold imagery.

I really liked this, well written and a pleasure to read.

Take care,
Dom

powerful poem, thoughtful imagery but our attempts to cure the land are never futile.
