Hast thou withstood
By dangerous planted field
And haunted wood~
All devices of thine enemies
Gleam thy only bread
With stolen watchful eyes!
Come ill or good,
Lightsome days thou might see,
My fair feater'd Robin Hood~

Thou make many a' jest
Of outland-boundaries,
So take all thou may'st
And never count it crime
To rob the greatest robber
Of the Earth;
As from weak-visioned,
Self-lauding men whose worth
Is deemed and captured by thine ear
.. Lest your sable-eyes!

Bide thou, thy truest times;
Thou know'st far more
Of Nature's lore than we~
..And know evermore,
You "shrill outlaw of eternity",
That her wide and heartened sky
Shall toll evermore for thee!

A Poe inspired write. This is very well penned and I loved the descriptive detail of the black, sable eyed raven that storms the skies. You did a mighty good job on this Billy~

I've been meaning to comment here, Billy, since I first read this piece. I read it initially, though, in an era of wordlessness. I am glad I did not neglect to make my way back here again now that I seem to have found my words again (well... at least... some of them, I suppose).

A reader could toil here forever mining nuggets from this piece without really ever reaching its core, I suspect. I was half inclined to point to lines that I particularly liked (the opening four, the final stanza...), but isolating any part of this without reference to the remainder would seem to do the entirety of it a disservice. I'll say only this then, I guess... what lies beneath the whole of this is palpable. I do not think I can name it... but I can feel it. Moreoever, it seems to stay with me even once I've moved away from the page.

Thought provoking to say the least...
