[time] => 2007-02-24 07:40:44 [hometext] => We start off young, but end up old, Respect our elders always told, how sad it is when youth has gone, and old we're left to carry on [bodytext] => I sit here old and grey, delicate,so cold, my muscles ache
People walking past with smiles that they fake,
I'm looked at by the younger ones, who see me not atall
Because I'm now frail and bent helpless and small

I know I look half the person compared when young
countless days where we laughed drank and sung
But even I had my days of youthfilled fun
Worries and fears of which I had none

I did that too, yes like you there,
wild carefree, now wouldnt dare
Climbed trees and mountains, took many a hike,
Cycled miles upon trusty ole bike

I too laughed at the old, watched them sat in the cold
Giggled at their wrinkly skin, not giving thought to that within
Never giving a thought that one day I'd be
The image I laughed at,but didn't really see

Never gave thought of the sacrifice they made
Fighting for freedom,left.... dying no aid
Took them for granted, ignored them aswell
when they stopped to chat of tales past they'd tell

Now my turn to just be ignored, how lonely if feels no where to hide
feeling scared and empty .....now turned the tide
Is this how they felt, when we giggled at them too?
How cold and shallow, disgraceful thing to do

My time has come,my youth now long gone
All I can do is sit and watch on
I wish I had thought more about who they'd once been
Instead of just laughing at what I had seen.................. Malcolmsdreamgirl, Once again you feed our strong appetite for reality as this hit the nail right on the head. What a true reflection of lifes cycle as many think our life is over and we have no value any longer. Thank you for sharing this with us all and hopefully your younger readers will take note and make a great change. You are so awesome. Wonderful poem.

Your Dear Friend

Sad but well done.
I know some of these feelings ocassionally but I don't think I ever made fun of older folks.
Hang tuff friend as joy cometh in the morning.
I live alone to but very seldom ever lonely 'cause I have my writing and this great global family here.
Keep writng.
Big huggs, luv,

Double WOW. I'm breathless, oh are we ever alike. if you get a moment read my " Darcy Chandler " People walking past with smiles that they fake," if this isn't a masterpeice not 2 mention how i can relate 2 this, i don't know what the hell is. Lady you are a writer
who know's life better than it know's itself. This poem posesse more thruth than the bible itself. Your a breath of fresh air, Finnaly, someone who is aware that age isn't just a number.
