Or many many rows downstairs where you think you cannot be heard by them? THINK AGAIN ..... [bodytext] => They used to be all innocent and sweetness
Now they're just a bitter twisted mess
As a child they wept alone in bed
As they listened to the arguement ........and harsh words their parents said
No one knew how, they lay in bed, alone so so afraid
No Mummy to cuddle away the fears..... No Daddy who'd have stayed
How lonely they felt, world falling in , security zero ,so so alone
There with all their family, yet laying there on their own

They would hide under the blankets, cover their ears to shut out the noise
Surely this should be the time for playing with their toys?
Scared if he would hit her? Fearing just the worst
Laying hiding helpless, until they end this angry outburst
Crying like a baby, because Mummy was too
But what else is a little innocent able to do ?
UP TO YOUR BED Daddy would shout at the very top of his voice
So that's where they stayed filled with fear, ....because they had no choice

Thinking, praying, wishing so hard, for Daddy now to stop this row
Wanting to be somewhere else, anywhere else just now.
Wait... suddenly there is silence? Oh God is Mummy dead?
No, they hear her footsteps, as they sit upright in bed.
Mummy why is Daddy shouting? did you not eat all your dinner?
Is that why you look so tired now? so frail and so much thinner?
Is that why you cry in bed at night? because he gets so mad?
Mummy you are the best Mummy and Daddy I ever could have had!

Their Mother re assures them, Darling Daddy is ok
Sometimes he just gets angry at Mummy,.... and SHOUTS what he has to say
She tucks the innocent tight in their bed, tells them that's where they must STAY
Says god bless, sweet dreams sleep tight, and quietly slips away
When they reach their adulthood, it seems they never find .....
That special type of person, caring, loving and so kind
Well yes they do, but they don't feel the same toward this caring way
They end up with a hatred soul, whos bitter.... cold in what they say

It seems they feel more comfy there, with a person causing pain
Instead of warmth and love and hope and happiness sustain
Could this be their comfort ? from when they were a child?
Not happy in the happy zone, only when hatreds running wild.
Now it's them that argue nightly, and their young that suffer all
Now they live that world of argument caring not atall
How well their parents taught them, how proud they both would be
This mixed up hateful couple only young innocents get to see. This brought back a lot of memories both from my youth and from my ex marriage...I wish I could have known what this would do to my children when they were young...it would have given me the strength to leave sooner.
This is a beautiful piece to really make people think where they are and Why...with all the support today you wonder why we stay. Thank you my wise friend for sharing this piece.

This really brought back memories from my marriage that I was able to get out of before it caused the damage to our children.
This so true though that people dont realize what it can do. This was very beautifully wrote. Great job

Very nice and well written. I hope this poem can be of inspiration to all parents who argue instead of talk around their children. Thank you for sharing.

I'm not a very emotional person, but I was nearly in tears by the end of this. It's so sad, but so true. I pray in hope that the children that have dealt with such experiences gain the strength to stop the cycle of child mirrors parent when it comes to shouting matches and things like this... Excellent poem, touched my heart deeply.
