How quickly shortened days deceive
Our reckless minds to soon believe
That an early night the day could weave;
And through its moon the sun we’ll mourn;
This wintry vigil, an attempt forlorn.

Though the heedless day will soon retrieve
The hiding sun to grant reprieve,
Alas, it will abruptly leave;
And another moon it will adorn,
Until the morrow it is reborn.

Lost within this somber day
As wilted dreams wither away,
Weltering in ceaseless dismay;
In these falling flakes my hope resides
That soon I’ll pass my frigid strides.

While the singing birds of May
Will change the gloom and dreary gray…
Yet these dismal nights betray
With racy dreams of vernal tides,
For which my lonely heart abides. [comments] => 10 [counter] => 500 [topic] => 27 [informant] => wizard [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 26 [ratings] => 6 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => NaturePoetry )
