Array ( [sid] => 131265 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => One Last Goodbye [time] => 2007-02-01 13:56:06 [hometext] => We buried my uncle yesterday and said our goodbyes. In truth, after several strokes it seemed as if we had said goodbye to the real man a long time ago [bodytext] => The irony of death, given like a gift to ease
No more the ravaged mind from parasitic disease
Life became a burden, wounds too deep to heal
Now at last torment subsides, to dignified sleep

Cold winter chill surrounds us, bites deeper than before
Not number by nature's icy hand, but the stinging sense of loss
A fight without a reason, now mercifully at end
The will to live instinctive, body no more than shell

We could not penetrate your world, did not posess the key
Eyes saw but would not recognise, just embers from the fire
A ghost of someone that I knew, that knew me not at all
Tattered memory remnants, fragments of former self

The curtains shuttered as we stood, we bowed our heads in prayer
Entrusted now to the higher power, as witnesses we came
Your passing marked by all who grieved, farewell the final act
Though long ago you left our lives, we gave one last goodbye

puppy_dog_eyes, its so sad to have to say good-bye but when a poet composes something like this it for sure helps with the grieving process and is a beautiful dedication to the love that will forever be a treasure. Very nice poem.

Steve, very beautifully written with so much emotion in it. Sometimes being alive can be such a burden that death comes as a relief. You portraited that beautifully in this poem I think. A death will always be a tragedy and a time to mourn about the loss of a loved one.

Me heart goes out to both you and yer mrs and yer family. May you remember the best moments with him....

Huggssss...

Lots of love,

Nats

My grandfather died last year, after suffering from a brain tumour; he didn't know who he was, or who anyone else was either. It's so difficult sitting there with someone who should remember you when you were in nappies, when all they can talk to you about is something trivial and irrelevant (when they talk at all). You have created something so beautiful out of something that is so sad; something not everyone can achieve; so my congragulations and condolences,

Tuesday x

sorry to hear about your loss but they are at peace now.. this is a very well written piece on death of a loved one.. a few years ago my grandpa died of a tumor in his brain. he had gotten so sick that he had to be put in a nursing home.. I was sad when he died but glad he wasn't suffering anymore

A well written piece that surely watches the process of death overtake a soul. The loss is always unbearable to see the mind slip before the body follows...it somehow is to prepare us to face our own immortality. At least that is what I choose to believe. Live well and do everything you planned.
