Array ( [sid] => 130909 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Morning Optimism [time] => 2007-01-23 16:03:54 [hometext] => I don't know how good this is as a poem, i write what is in my head, thoughts and feelings as words. i think they are beautiful. I am 15 years old, i am only a beginner at this- thankyou. [bodytext] => I’m going to spend my day looking at the world in an optimistic light.
Make me feel like I’m there on top of the world
Where so many people say they want to be
And then you tell me that I can’t fall.
Then I’ll stay.
I look outside my window through the crisp morning air;
It’s sunny outside today
And there’s that frost that defines the leaves, the trees,
Everything you realise you left out at night.
The leaves, their edges are sharp but appear soft and beautifully crafted
You notice so much more in the frost, the shapes and lines
You can’t see without it layered there, painted on in the dark.
Then when you look close at the furry white edges they aren’t so soft.
They’re cold and it isn’t white fur but white spikes of cold there.
And when you walk among them they crunch as you crack the surface
But that is good; that is a good crunch to feel.
Shafts of daylight come through the trees as I walk beneath them;
Piercing the morning air with their fresh luminescence.
They shine like you do.
They make my leaves sparkle and glisten.
Show me my breath in front of my face as I walk;
The swirls of warmth and clouds of life.
And they contain those dots of brightness and miniscule swirling pieces,
The tiny pieces trapped in the light.
Those pieces you used to see when you were small,
That came through the window with the sunlight
And you never understood, and they’re still here with you now.
Everything around is made beautiful for me to observe,
For this little while I have all to myself to see,
Before the darkness and damp and day comes,
And washes away the crisp, white frostiness that the faeires put there in the dead of night.
When they came and skated around on the edges of the leaves and the water,
And danced around the trees and flowers and covered them in their night frost.
But for now it’s here.
To make the world optimistic in the morning light.
