~

Let me tell you about my little boy,

The sole object of all my joy.

And let me tell you of his incredible love,

One that never fails to rise above.

~

It was early this morning, before daylight,

I was in the kitchen grabbing an early bite.

When I heard tiny feet running across the floor,

And there was this sleepy eyed boy by the kitchen door.

“Don’t go to work daddy”, I heard him cry,

As be ran towards me, rubbing his eye.

Hugging my waist, he wouldn’t let go,

With every ounce of strength, he was trying to show.

Just how much love he has to give,

What an unselfish life in which to live.

~

I picked him up and kissed his cheek,

Overwhelmed with emotions I could barely speak.

My dearest son, if you only knew,

How much I would love to stay home with you.

If only I could, I wouldn’t hesitate,

To promise you that playtime date.

~

We hugged for awhile and just sat and talked,

Then sadly to the garage we slowly walked.

I got in my car and drove away,

After the perfect beginning of another day.

What a very beautiful and touching poem. Your son sounds like an amazing child. I’m sure he will appreciate reading this some day.

Ah my old friend, you write of life's everyday occurances, the little hugs and all the things that others forget, better than anyone I know.

Thank you for reminding me to smell the roses ( or the kids in this case) lol

Barkeep!
