Array ( [sid] => 130155 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Mummy, are you there? [time] => 2007-01-05 07:35:12 [hometext] => A story on television... a poem on paper. Perhaps that tells all about this poem. I'm not sure whether it has come out the way I wanted it to, for I am hopelessly bad at writing poetry. However, comments will be welcomed with arms wide open! [bodytext] => Mummy, are you there?
There’s so much smoke everywhere!
I can’t see a thing
Why does the bell ring?

Mummy, are you there?
This feels like a nightmare
The fire ― it’s engulfing me
I’m trapped, I can’t break free!

Mummy, are you there?
I’m caught in the glare
My flesh blisters and burns
As the world around me swirls.

Mummy, are you there?
Don’t you love me, don’t you care?
My vision is blurred
My speech now slurred.

Mummy, are you there?
Come on! Hear my prayer!
The coughing now stops
As consciousness drops.

Mummy, are you there?
Look how the flames flare!
Wait, where am I?
Why can I suddenly fly?

Mummy, can’t you see?
I’m floating beside the tree
Why are you weeping?
What is it that you’re seeking?

Mummy, don’t cry!
I’m still here before your eyes…
Look at me one last time
Please look, before the last chime.

Mummy, take care
I have to go now; I’m not sure where
My soul can now leave
I’m at peace now, please don’t grieve.

What's all this about not being good at poetry? This is very deep and spiritual, it almost feels like the mind of a small child.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
