"Once Twice Thrice"

He hit me once
He hit me twice
He hit me thrice

After every hit he would say “I’m sorry sweetie”
And but me something nice

I knew it wasn’t right
But with each apology
He sounded so sincere
With each apology was also a swear

One day he went too far
He didn’t hit me but instead
He hit my best friend

I realized then
I would happen again
So I dumped him for good
But before I did
I showed him what it felt like

I hit him once
I hit him twice
I hit him thrice

But I gave him no apology
Or any nice gifts

But there was a swear
I swore that if he ever hit me again
I would fight back
If he ever hit a woman again
I would fight back

I know two wrongs don’t
Usually make a right
But this is one of those
Rare occasions where it does
Wouldn’t you agree?

Wow! You've got an excellent insight into the world of an abused woman, and I agree with you when you say that these women must fight back.

You're title is fine :)! You've described this so vividly! Great piece of writing!

Raw power to say the least. I was in one of those relationships for longer than I should have been. There did come a time I did fight back. It worked for only moments though.
Best thing a woman can do in a situation like this is gather up all her courage and run, get the hell out of dodge as soon as she can.

A very strong write Jen, sadly, I know many women who have been abused by their boyfriends/husbands. And with every hit, my blood boils with rage. I swore a long time ago, that no man will ever hit a woman I care about again. And I've hurt many men for that cause, and I am not sad of that fact.

Very good work Jen.
