Answers come in single syllables
Racing up and down the windows
Sometimes I think you look right through me
Words don’t say enough
Because you cannot hear me

Crying softly so I won’t disturb you
Wringing tears from your lost words
Scratched across my burning skin
I’ve listened for so long
Trying hard to understand you
Wishing I could see inside you

Listen to the sound my heart
Ticking in the old clock
Working hard to break the silence
Instead of telling me you can’t love
Show me how you once loved
With reckless abandon and abundance

Sitting next to you for hours
Leaning back against the towers
Staring up into the stars
We talk of love that has turned sour
Uncertain terms and disappointments
Left by others on our doorsteps

CHORUS:
Between the lines we know the words
To every song we’ve ever heard
Love is bitter, love is kind

Hi Merry,

sometimes I can't tell how lyrics will sound when they are woven into a tune, but I do know the exquisite pain of loving someone who is falling out of love ( but won't seem to go away). So many familiar thoughts and feelings, so purely expressed. I hope it's your imagination working overtime and not your heart (lol).

Happy Sol Invictus Day,

S
