I've heard since life's begun:
"Life has to be fun
'cause if it was all about the money that we make,
it wouldn't really be illegal to rob a bank"
Since it's just part of the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness
Once you put it that way, it really does make sense
What a mess
We pretend to be people of substance
but the only things we live for are money, power, and sex
A few live for God, but not all pass the test
so we fall into simple traps, overspending just to dress
See, the world wants us to look like
thugs and gangsters
so while we see wealth, they quickly see danger
Trying so hard to hand out rocks
instead of business cards
it simply becomes part of our culture
to act hard
See, our role models are really fashion models
wearing what they're told we want to
not bosses, but employees; they don't lead
they follow
Don't believe what you see on TV
they don't hustle; they borrow
and their brothers are getting arrested and killed
they fake out fake cops, thinking their stomachs are filled
they're not real
but we pay real consequences
Living and dying for something that's inconsequential
'cause real gangstas don't get famous
they die by the hands that fed them
So why live and why die
over a commercial image that's all a lie?
Because those fashion models are our role models
and we're trying to do what they taught us
'cause they pretend to have what we're told
that we're wanting
Advertised hunger for respect, sex, and money
got our young women giving up their bodies
and since our young men think they want that
they get it quick, and don't even give respect back
and since sex is the main thing that drives man
young men keep getting with the program
and since some women define themselves by their men
girls allow their misquidance to encourge them
and so the vicious cycle relays
TV knows we're in love with the same thugs, so they replay
meanwhile, the train to the hood's freedom delays [comments] => 2 [counter] => 238 [topic] => 6 [informant] => lost_chadow [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => AngryPoetry )

Tis True my friend! If youre Canadian or have ever heard of MuchMusic, it used to be pretty cool and grassroots, but Ive watched it become a promotor of that lifestyle, that mindset, the faithful to death consumer. Look up Media Carta...Media reform must take place! Keep talkin and dont ever shut up man!
Peace
