The female role in contrast
is she must be a mother
and so in fundamentals
we're quite different to eachother

But we are far removed now
from those so simple roles
in civilised society
we now have hearts and souls
our human aspirations
give us something more sublime
the only trouble being
it don't work every time

The female role is much the same
The male's completely changed
so it's hardly so surprisng
now and then he gets deranged
This does not mean all love it lost
that's putting too much in it
It only means, like London busses
There'll be another in a minute

"Oh no!... this one's the only one
for me!" the maiden cried
If that were true the human race
would never have survived
Now I've been married fifty years
before, engaged three times
every one to end in tears
all were pantomimes

I met my ex's now and then
all happily married to other men
Pushing prams or holding kids
They've all found happiness again
It looks as though they have their lives
in far, far better shape
and seem to think not marrying me
a bloody lucky escape!

Thank you Lia. I read so many young girls pouring out their hearts in sorrow. I thought
I'd try to take them forward a few years.
Not that they will think it means THEM of course

As you rightly deduce
the last lines please excuse
for they happened in several chance meetings
They with a pram
me as I am
.we just exchanged briefest of greetings

At first that lot took up three verses
too long I thought "curses and curses"
reduction essential
effort consequential
innacurate shortened last verse is

I read one yesterday (can't remember the title)
it was thinly veiled pornography, I couldn't finish it or bring myself to comment..

I am in my later seventies but still feel at the beginning of learning. I find reading your poetry very stimulating.

Unfortunately I have dug myself a deep pit by writing too much too soon before I realised how the site works.. Just at the moment I am spending more time in reading and replying to comments than writing poetry. I do not mind this but one or two "lady aquaintences" get a little anoyed with my slowness in replying. How nice at my age!!!!!!

It is so nice to be considered a "young girl" wailing away at the old age of 42 ... I guess sometimes it doesn't matter how old you are you still can feel the pain of lost love and can't help but write about it. :)))) All said in jest. I love your poetry wrybod and thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting a smile on my face when I read your poetry. .... Jan

When you're 78 and married 49 yrs....... 42 IS YOUNG.
I'm so glad that I've managed to cheer you up a bit. The last verse of my poem is a contraction of several chance meetings with ex's in every case they were pushing prams and happily married.

It's a great site this YPDC. I shall have to do a poem "Glad I found you all" or something along those lines

that to this end
i have written you a poem
for my wonderful friend

it is called
"there once was a man on a site"
i hope you like it
it made my day bright

The poem got too long when i first wrote it

Thank you for bringing my attention to this one. You do have a good point. I have always agreed with you but it helps to be reminded sometimes. I've been having a bad attitude in love since Brian. very burned....So i appreciate your sharing.

I'm glad if I have helped in a small way. It's easy to give advice but much harder to follow it. One small step at a time. One small positive resolve every day.

nice poem wrybod... we might be young and you might be sick of hearing our cries and woes but we alos like you have the right to express ourselves... especially when some of us don't have anyone to talk too so we instead of bundling up inside put our words into poetry to express ourselves and let all the hurt and heart ache out in that way not so many of us end up on depression drugs.... nice write though on your part and great expression too

OK,OK,OK....you've got a point....I've become a cantankerous, unsympathetic, old fogey and in need of a telling off. I have to agree the psychiatrists' couch is a very good argument. I must therefore conceed.

There's only one exception I would crave.
Occaisionally, very occaisionally I agree, but occaisionally I get the feeling that I am reading the work of a very skilled and cynical wordsmith who is using the situation for its' own sake. i.e. playing to the crowd for applause because they are there and he/she knows how to...............I wrote "Suicidal on Elm Drive" to make that point.

So let that be an end to my moaning. In future
I promise to live and let live or should I say .....let die.....

and thank you for your appreciation.

Isn't this a great site. I've felt quite ill these last few days while it's been down,

Considering that you are only 16 you have a talent and maturity beyond your years. I think lI was 27 before I met my wife (in 1954). Even then I had been away from home (in the RAF) from 1943-48.

I suppose the war, the blitzes(when I was a Fire Service messenger)
meant that we grew up very quickly. We were never a teenagers in the present sense of the word

The Wrybod has done it again...

You're lucky indeed, to try grapes on the vine
How else do you know you've got the best wine?
Unfortunate me, I know no such variety
The best I can boast is a certain propriety

If I believe that l'll believe anything
it's a very unusual song that you sing
Never a sample before purchasing
always good manners when ascertaining
I ask myself really how true does that ring
A life without folly? A life without fling?
