In a cold dark room a baby is born,
On an old bed, all tattered and torn,
No medical assistance, the mother alone,
She lies weak and frightened, far from home,

No guiding star in this sky tonight,
No future ahead so clear and bright,
No shepherds to watch, no wise men here,
Just a young girl and child in adversity,

The father he left her, without a goodbye,
With no money or food,or reasons why,
Left her alone to beg on the streets,
To a life now so cruel and bittersweet,

A cardboard box is this babies bed,
From his mothers breast this baby is fed,
No bethlehem,no stable, no manger here,
Just harsh reality and so much fear,

The baby cries, for it is cold,
A blanket surrounds it, no swaddling clothes,
The night is bitter, and full of dread,
And come the morning, the baby is dead,

The mother worn out and in so much distress,
Holds the child so tightly at her breast,
Cries for this child who never stood a chance,
A victim only through circumstance,

The mother then wrapped the child up tight,
Placed him in a bag that fateful night,
To the street she went and in a while,
In a bin she disposed of that little child,

Back in her cold and miserable room,
Reality hit her amongst the gloom,
She overdosed with needle sharp,
Heartbroken and lost in the dark,

So this the alternative christmas tale,
That shows us life beyond the pale,
Two deaths that night, no saviour there,
And all because of lack of care, [comments] => 7 [counter] => 3190 [topic] => 32 [informant] => jerseysue [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 25 [ratings] => 5 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SadPoetry )

Ohhhhh Sue, you made me cry with this one.
Reality hits with a mighty blow at times doesn't it? You wrote this with great talent and flowing pen, beautiful in its sadness.

Hello dear Sue,
You have touched the very heart of God is this heartenchig truth!
It shows our Planet how sad this place can be any time.
It shows how spirituality could have done something to save them both.
To me Christmas is 'bout luv and how we all should strieve to be.
God bless you for putting this down so perfect.
luv, huggs, happy. happy days,
emy

My dearest friend, Sue~
You had many tears fall from my eyes. It's a sad case of harsh reality. While some are enjoying the festive season others are trying to make ends meet. This broke my heart and took my thoughts to all those needy people
out there. I wished so much I had the power to house and feed these people so that they never have to endure another day of pain and suffering again, but I am not a saviour, I am only one person :-(
Your powerful words struck every cord in my heart my dear friend. You are an amazing poetess who touches the heart of her reader every time. Thanks for posting this~
love, hugs n prayers,
sue m
