If I had seen you through the broken glass,
I would have lifted you up,
If I had seen you fall so deep,
The air impossible to breathe,

I would have loved you if I could,
I could have held your hand in the night,
And kissed you at dawns first light,
But you walked away, away, away,
Now I can never reach you,

You live in hell,
A hell of your own mind,
The darkness surrounding,
And the pain overwhelming,
You scream in the silence of the horror,

I would have loved you if only you knew,
But the image was so distorted,
And you only believed in the lies,
Your blind heart could not feel,
The love I dreamed of giving,

The glass is shattered,
The windowpane covered,
And the drapes tattered,
I would love you still,
But its my heart that you kill,

Now there is nothing left to do but cry,
The questions why have long past,
Only the suffering you bring,
Once you totally accepted me,
Only to turn around and totally reject me,

As you walk by with her hand in yours,
The smile on your face radiates,
And the pain left inside me grows,
But I would have loved you,
If you had only seen through the broken glass.

Powerful piece Alison... My heart goes out to you. The use of the shattered glass metaphor was a very good idea to build strength in this.
Great, albeit sad, write!
