As I stand still, I hear
The words spoken, clear
They do not register
My brain numb
My mind unwilling
As I am wrapped up in my misery
Apathy

The death is not of someone I know
However, I affects someone I know
The pain in her voice
Touches my soul
Yet, I do not wish to feel more anguish
My mind unwilling
As I am wrapped up in my misery
Apathy

The voice stops speaking, it hesitates
Waiting for a reaction
I utter what is customary
Those words which hold no meaning
I speak them, but as I speak
My mind unwilling
As I am wrapped up in my misery
Apathy

She leaves after expressing her grief
A fleeting moment, one that is brief
In which I feel that I should feel
A little more, be a little sure
The moment passes, too many deaths
My mind unwilling
As I am wrapped up in my misery

The combination of too much media and our own reluctance to feel pain....that is where this takes me, such a shame....very well written.
