Where have they gone these socks alone
Leaving behind their mate, their clone.
Gone from this place to a better one?
Feeling their usefulness is now done?
Created as mates their lives to share.
Now lying alone is ..but one of the pair.

As usual they entered the wash together.
But somehow one felt no need to bother
Any further toe to toe existence,
but rather chose exile as penitence?
For some darned good reason or imagined goal
Perhaps in holey need to redeem a trod on sole.
Not alone is this abandoned mate,
for I've many others that shared that fate.

I've single socks of many hues,
whites and blacks, grays and blues.
Varied lengths alone and pathetic
ankle, dress and those... athletic.
Yet, somehow I simply never learn!
That as soon as I pitch one........its mate will return!!

A lot of fun it has the flair of Wallace Stevens and reminds me of 'The Emperor of Ice Cream'

This piece also pays homage to many stand up acts going back to when we slapped our clothes upon the rocks...

Truly well done

Peace
Yang

True to life art drawing from experience....loved the idea that a sock would choose to exile over paired existance. Thanks for the chuckle.
