Hellfire pours from the skies
Bodily remains lie on once crowded streets
And from these mounds of ash we'll rise
Las Vegas will one day be slain

The foundations canyon
And the night's sky is on fire
Cries for help, and an end to suffering
Take this pain away, end it now

Stalking the unhallowed grounds
Shrill shrieks and exploding sounds
The modern day Sodom
Las Vegas will one day be slain

Before the daylight breaks
This land will reclaim it's proper posture

I suppose rather than being preapologetic, I should have explained the poem. I have never been to Las Vegas, as I had never been to New Orleans. With all due respect to the entire population of both cities, those are both places where drugs, alcohol, violence and sex(prostitution, escort service, etc.) are very prominent.

I am not a philosopher or a biblical scholar by any means, though I have my own beliefs.
Which, relating to the poem, is that, in the bible God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah for their sins.

I've oftentimes heard that history repeats itself. Perhaps Las Vegas and New Orleans
are a modern Sodom and Gomorrah.

And again, don't get me wrong, New Orleans being destroyed was tragic, and still is. People died, that's a tragedy.

I must make a comment on this.
I spend a great deal of time in Las Vegas on a regular basis.

You speak of it as it is the only place on the earth where there are illegal activites going on. I can tell you I have been all over the USA to huge cities to small towns and believe me Vegas is not just one place in the world where there is drug use, and hurts along the way.

Las Vegas is a beautiful city with clean streets and nice adorable people. I have been there durning the daylight and the night time, never have I encountered a problem.

There is something for everyone there. Beautiful shows, glowing lights, Circus Circus is a wonderful place to take the kids.

There is the secret gardens which I would have spent an entire day at if we had the time.

One would have to come out to Vegas to appreciate the good things about it.

New Orleans, Biloxi MS, all those places once again. I was there often. They were some of the kindest people I had met out there. Beautiful places, good food, clean establishments. People extend themselves to you.

Everywhere one goes you will find the otherside of the human race, a town nearby with a population of under one thousand has a huge crime and drug problem.

I lived in LA honey and there I saw many a thing, things I have never encountered in New Orleans or Las Vegas, Nevada.

I hope one day you can make a trip to the city there is many things to do that would make you very happy.

Las Vegas is just as it is intended to be when it was first built.

Thanks for sharing this poem, it was interesting to see your thoughts.

~Michelle~

I echo Shelby's sentiments here, I take your point about a modern day Sodom and Gommorah, but Vegas has something for everyone. Yes you do get people peddling sex numbers on the streets, but on the whole the place gives a lot of none ellicit pleasure to a lot of people. I'm from the UK and have just returned from my second visit to Las Vegas, believe me, to think this guy from England would one day visit this place was just amazing for myself and my wife.

Your poem could in fact relate to some places in the UK, but for me, and my wife, Las Vegas will remain as an astonishing place to visit, that goes for the Grand Canyon as well. I am well aware of the history of the place, and the fact that it still carries on today, but the Bible relates to many places of ill repute even in Biblical times.

Your poem has invoked discussion, and that is no bad thing, thanks for writing.
