~
Through the eyes of a boy, who is only now four,
A big complicated world for him to explore.
Though he can’t comprehend all that he sees,
He takes it all in like a busy little bee.
~
A look of puzzlement shows on his face,
He deals with confusion with dignity and grace.
“Someday” I tell him, “You’ll understand”,
As he grows from a boy to a man.
~
Although he wishes that day would come,
His journey in life has just begun.
Don’t run until you learn to crawl,
That’s a lesson that’s good for us all.
~
“Slow down daddy, wait for me”,
As he jumps upon my knee.
His big blue eyes staring into mine,
Seeking answers he hopes to find.
~
His every sentence ends with “why”,
As I see such wonder in his eyes.
So we sit for hours upon end,
As we discuss, how life began.

Up until this point:
“Slow down daddy, wait for me”,
As he jumps upon my knee.
His big blue eyes staring into mine,
Seeking answers he hopes to find.

Sometimes, Jeff, I think it would be nice to be little again. To not have all the responsibilities and worries placed upon my shoulders. But then, every so often, I too manage to get into their eyes, and I realize that it isn't so easy to be little and trying to figure this complicated world out.

Thank God your little boy has a father like you, so willing to sit and talk and help him through. Wonderful poem! Thank you for sharing another glimpse into your life.

Jennifer

Loved the write, Jeff. I too have a four year old son. I can relate very much to this piece. The little guy brings me joy everyday.
Peace, Laura
