but you don't care about her name
or what she did today.

Yesterday her mommy died
and today she got aids from
stepping on an infected needle searching through the trash
for your leftovers
trying to feed her little brother
who’s crying from hunger on the dirt floor
of their makeshift cardboard hut.

There’s a teenage boy far away
but you don’t care about his name
or what he did today.

Two months ago Johnny joined Uncle Sam
to get some education.
Yesterday he kissed his mom goodbye
and joined the ranks in camouflage.
He’s homesick now, pulling out a picture
of the sweetheart he left behind.
He hears the crack but is dead
before he hears the boom.
His mother got the letter that he’s MIA,
but still hopes he’ll come home soon.

There’s a family far away
but you don’t care about their name
or what they did today.

They knew the hurricane was coming
but they had no where to go
and no money to get there.
They shoveled all the sand bags they could
but it didn’t stop the water
from destroying their house and home
and taking little Jimmy.

There’s catastrophe happening everyday
but you just pretend to care about it for today.
You know you’ll forget the names and faces, people and places
by tomorrow.

So disbelieve your disbelief
and reinforce your fortress of lies,
throw out all the newspapers
and cover up your eyes
because it’s not happening to you. [comments] => 2 [counter] => 222 [topic] => 25 [informant] => WorthlesSanity666 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 9 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => MiscPoems )

I like the poem itself. I like the repeatition and how it really grips your heart in certain places.
The images and the stories are incredibly sad and used to good effect.

However, I do not like the generalisation.

Some people do care, and it's not fair to declare otherwise.

Nonetheless, it's a good write.

*hugs*
