Array ( [sid] => 126059 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Song to Bob [time] => 2006-09-21 21:55:10 [hometext] => Tribute to my inspiration for getting into writing, Bob Dylan. It's written with the same somewhat awkward rhythm and language as his tribute to his idol, "Song to Woody." [bodytext] => I’m standing here all alone with my mind
Am I enlightened or am I just blind
I’m seeing a new world of people and things
I loathe ignorance and the comfort it brings

Hey, hey Bobby Dylan, your eyes open wide
The clothes on your back and you’re hitching a ride
Leaving Duluth and seeing this great land
The voice of a youth that you don’t understand

Hey, hey Bobby Dylan, I know that you would
Say that fans and critics they misunderstood
They called you the voice of a generation
Caused you and your family mass devastation

A folkie, a hippy, a commie, a bum,
Labels pinned on you by a public’s venom,
To describe you in line, I don’t think I can
But I’ll try simply saying you’re a good family man

But I think Bobby Dylan, you still fail to see,
How you’ve inspired such people as me,
You say Woody Guthrie made you see anew,
What you felt about him, I feel about you.

Nice write, man. I've had the pleasure of seeing Bob a few times. He never disappoints me. Saw him on the Phil and friends tour...great friggen show. I love seeing interviews of him when he was really young...so cute....so naive. He couldn't understand why all the hype over him. What a guy. On my list of favorite writers.
Peace, Laura

Unfettered, glowing tribute poetry to an man who was also a poet and outsider. Robert Z did have a couple bad habits, (apart from smoking and scowling) - one was "borrowing" books and records from people and never returning them (see the doco No Direction Home) and occasionally taking anonymous old poems and turning them into lyrics (A Hard Rain`s A-Gonna Fall) without referencing. Still, a seminal figure in 20th century music and an modern day icon. Nice one.
