It burns and itches,
Frustrating beyond belief
Pain beyond recognition
I can't stand.
It seems alien to me,
Not my own.
I wash and scrub,
It's still there.
I close my eyes and imagine,
the person behind this skin
Who am I?
These questions unanswered
Staring me in the face,
In a world beyond my own
Without this skin,
Who am I?
I look inside myself,
searching desperatly.
Who am I without this skin?
It means everything,
It's my identity.
Is this really who I am?
A skin?
The anger burns inside of me
Scratching and scaring.
Bruising and wounding
Is this what I am meant to be?
A skin?
My mind screams aloud
Protests of determination,
I was not this skin.
I was me.
But can I be me, without this skin? [comments] => 3 [counter] => 200 [topic] => 43 [informant] => xfrozenwindx [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => oops )

Thought provoking... prompting me to wonder how many people really see inside. Moreover, how many do we let in?

I've a feeling that these thoughts ran deeper and were more significant even that what appears on the page here. You've shared enough, though, that the reader has a sense of what it was that caused you to pick up the pen.

Keep writing,
~Snemmy

I really enjoyed this write. The concept is simple to understand, yet so powerful. We all need to take time and find who we really are beneath the skin. Great write!
