She no longer remembers who we are
Or exactly where she is
Now she lies helpless slowly losing her grasp on life
Her eyes once a vibrant blue
Have faded to a dull grey
Kneeling there by her side tears streaming down my face
She wipes them says child do not weep for me
I have fulfilled my purpose in this life
And am moving on to a better place
I whisper grandma please tell me again how life tastes
A little life springs back to her eyes as she begins to speak
She says life tastes like the laughter of those that you love
Like the cry of a newborn babe
And the souls of a million unsung heros
Like the coo of a snow white dove
It tastes like the purest snow falling in winter
And the hottest summer sun
Cool as the moon beams that float free in the vast night sky
It tastes like the love that only kindred spirits can share child
Her voice barely a whisper now she says life tastes bitter at times, but it can also taste sweet...oh so very sweet
With a smile on her face her eyes close
And the last drop of life fades from her
