Today I heard gunmen kill twenty
Hiding behind tombstones
While the people go to bury
Their own
Does it get any sicker
Do we ever get beyond
That kind of hatred
That kind of hate
Makes the world
A horrible place

It sickens me and I tremble
That life is just that cheap
And these wanton murderers
How the hell do they sleep
They know they’re killing children
But they rejoice and they leap
As the bodies pile up at their feet

Is there any sense at all to this
Or is it just me?
Do we have to hate our neighbors
And strive to make them bleed
Why do they kill the kids
And then laugh as they do
Will the bleeding ever end
I can’t believe the resources
And the time they spend
To attempt to wipe out
People they don’t even know
But an enemy they pretend
And the bombs show indifference
As they land on your friends
And who will ever win, what?
In the end

Aren’t we all just humans
Can’t we just be friends
Why don’t we get together
And look at where we’ve been
As cruel as we may have
As stupid as we’ve been
Don’t we all want the same things
Deep inside it’s clear
Can we ever reconcile
A means to an end
As the circle makes a cycle
And we all win
As sure as the sun
Will rise and set again

Good question. Why? I hate this war. I hate the constant images of children who's lives will be forever damaged by it. Good write. A most terrible situation. The war machine keeps grinding on. Heart wrenching.
Peace, Laura

I agree war causes nothing but pain and suffering, we tell our children not to fight not to hit other children, then blow up other human beings and shoot children..This is a great poem that makes you realize how terrible the world has become.. xxx

Yeah... exactly.
