Equaling only a cent
Alone I'd sit forever
Never to be spent
But I've got some friends
They're pennies too
Together we're a quarter
Still not much we can do
But we get by
With a favor or two

Some of my friends went off
And became dimes
I don't see them anymore
Oh I've tried
But they ussually slam the door
Still I know a few of the dimes
I even know a quarter
I call from time to time
And he helps me out
When I'm stuck in my climb

I reached the bank once
All wrapped up and rolled
And when they busted us open
What a site to behold!
There was thousands of pennies
Dimes, quarters too
And folks from other countries
Which to equal me it took two!
I couldn't help thinking
If we just got together
Imagine what we could do!

Well we were all spread around
So it was real hard to talk
And some coins were out for themselves
The way they'd been taught
While others had just given up
And looked so distraught
It seemed like this chance
Was all for naught

Too soon it was time to go
In a pocket heading for the door
As I glanced back
I felt with all this change
For the world
We could do so much more
But alas
I am just a penny
A cent and no more

This is a very good poem, and you ARE a poet, my friend.

This is really good. I would never have thought of using currency in a poem, or making a story that tells a story of human faults, and what we should do. Quite exceptional. Sue x Enjoyed it very much.

yes, a very clever and whimsical analysis of differences, alikeness and potential. I had to groan at these lines though:

As I glanced back
I felt with all this change
For the world
We could do so much more

maybe an untintentional pun ( I do it all the time), but it only added to this creative and funny observation. Going back for another read,

Spike
