Is it oh they are all worthless pieces of crap, who are all better off dead

I am sorry if you dislike me because I have this addiction

But what if you woke up one morning and found yourself in my position

Would it be a struggle for you to make the right choice

Would you try and tell this drug no, but see that you have no voice

You may think so many have done it, so why can't I do the same

But believe me if it wasn't hard, then my sobriety I would maintain

Don't you think that it would be a little strange

If this addiction was something I didn't want to change

But I can't just wake up one morning and say this is it

Today is the day that I finally quit

I do not use drugs because I don't care

For you to assume that about me, just isn't fair

I started when I was 13 years old

And yes of course I had been told

About the dangers of using

But being a teenager can be a bit confusing

I didn't realize the strength it had

I figured there is no way that it could be that bad

But now I see that it gets it's power by making me weak

There have been so many times that I want to say no, but couldn't speak

My common sense flies out the door

I know its wrong, yet I scream for more

I use to deal with emmotion

It's like a magic potion

When I was in high school I carried it in my drink

So nobody would ever think

In college I would smoke in the bathroom during lunch

Nobody knew or even had a hunch

I graduated and got my degree

I function normally don't you see

I got a wonderful job with good pay

And I was still using everyday

If I didn't use I would be tired

And I didn't want to get fired

For not coming in

So each day I had to use again

I got married

And have still carried

On with this addiction

But it's causing so much confliction

I want to quit, yes I do

Afterall wouldn't you

For this drug I feel disgust

Yet at the same time feel lust

I know it's going to send me to my grave

Yet, still I crave

So what is your prediction?

Give this girl a conviction

Do you feel there is no hope?

Can you see me sliding down the slippery slope?

I know I am an addict, but do you think by putting me down

That it is going to help pick me up from the ground

Don't tell me that it is not hard until you have walked in my shoes

Because I am telling the truth when I say I don't want to use [comments] => 9 [counter] => 548 [topic] => 66 [informant] => babylugz [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 20 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => drugabuse )

So many ways to abuse your mind and body, and your right, this poem says it all. Don't judge others, too much to say about it. Thanks for posting it is excellent.

Hope you have someone or something to grasp onto help you. Good luck

You've written a very good poem on a taboo subject. That takes bravery. If it's truly about you: are you brave enough to get help? My son did, and I pray the methadone program will work for him. After a 10 yr. struggle with him, he confessed to me his addiction, and asked for help, and even though we (me and his mother) have gone through hell with him those 10 yrs, we're helping him every way we can. See my poem - DESTRUCTION'S DREAD. God bless you.

Perhaps we should all step back and open our minds a little.
It must be hard when you have no control, when that you seek to give up actually controls you.
In truth maybe we should not criticise the addict but the people that made them so, the dealers who make profit from the misery of others

a very well written honest poem...if that doesn;t make people open their eyes I dont know what else will.

good luck with everything and hopefully one day they will find better help for those who want it and can afford it.

Your poem so affected me i was compelled to expand on my earlier comment.

You wrote it so eloquently..you should be very proud of yourself..addiction or not..so many people fail to realize its an illness..like a cancer of its own. Its poems like yours that I too hope will make people take notice and lobby hard into treatments or cures(if possible?) much as they do for other illnesses. In fact...i think ill post this comment to your poem and maybe its a small step in the right direction. I wish you the best and all the happiness life can give.

That was wonderfully written, and I assume your habit revolves around Meth? Maybe Cocain? Either way, they are both very powerful substances espescially when smoked.

I know the mind of an addict, and when you say that you 'want' to quit, but really have no voice is sooo true. It's very hard to win this war, babylugz.

I actually went out last night, after a good while of sobriety, and relapsed./shrug. I feel awful today, and I'm so disapointed in myself, but all I can do is take it day by day.

Have you ever considered rehab? It certainly helps, but it still takes a great deal of effort on your part, and many times, like myself, you will find yourself using again.

This is how it goes sometimes. I wish you the best, and if you ever need to talk, just PM me. I'd be happy to be part of your support group. Maybe we could help each other?

My poison was cocain, and I've had problems with meth in the past as well. Although. cocain was my drug of choice.

Hang in there, and much Love,

--James--

i am an addict....born to be,as some may say............................parents were both addicts.my comment to you is this....................you hit it so true that we as addicts are misjudged especially by those whom have no vices......who walk the holy walk. they need to realize that we are good people making bad choices...we are mothers,fathers,sisters,brothers........hell we can even be you doctor, your boss..............just never sell yourself short,,,,,,,,,for thats th drugs purpose....and never never give up hope......we as a group are worth so much more.......................laydeeluck
