Funerals and Fairy Tales

Contributed by Man_On_High on Friday, 25th August 2006 @ 09:24:27 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Soon after night the summer dawn wakes the leaves
and the mists and noises in this corner of the world.
The left-hand banks hold in their violet shadows
the hundreds along the wet road.

Funeral procession.. needful of things:
floats covered with animales of gilded wood
poles and bright buntings - moving in time to the furious gallop
of twenty or more pattern circus-horses
with children and men upon them.

Endless slow-creeping vehicles decorated with flags
and flowers like the coaches of old or in fairy tales
full of people all dressed for a pastoral-
coffins under their somber canopies lifting aloft
their jet-black plumes rolling along to the trot
of huge mares - black and blue.

Billy

Another masterpiece, Billy. It provoked a childhood memory of sitting before the television and watching the funeral procession of President John F. Kennedy - the end of Camelot. And, in my opinion, we haven't had such a fairy tale return, nor such a spirit of leadership since. Yeah, "if each might borrow from the other - "

Ah, my dearest poet .. that first line is captivating to a fault!!

I pulled from this numerous things .. first I read it as is
and felt a slight melancholy wash over me ..

but with each read it becomes more gentle and soft. Is this the
way we see things or the way we want to see things ??

Whatever way, it would be explicitly grand if one actually could
borrow from another .. would it make the sorrow-filled less so?
And if thus, would it not then cause the joyous to be just a bit
declined in it's splendour? hmmmm .. this is a most interesting
piece, my dear Billy. Filled with a myriad of thoughts to ponder ~
I think I would still rather take the lows and highs as they are.
To feel PASSION to the degrees that are available and
prevalent is a gift I should NEVER trade ..

Your wonders never cease
