Array ( [sid] => 124646 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Aussie Drought [time] => 2006-08-19 03:22:35 [hometext] => Australia has been in drought for a long time. Somehow the Australian farmer finds the courage to keep going. They are a tough breed. This poem is my Toast to a tough breed that keeps Australia strong [bodytext] => The water trickled down my face
As sun gave way to rain
Laughter with the cool fresh feel
Washing away the strain

No dark thoughts from the clouds
A gentle north westerly blew
Smiling faces go to the subway
Everyone with things to do

Farmers prayers have been heard
First water in years
Much work to save their crops
Then to the pub for beers. [comments] => 4 [counter] => 180 [topic] => 65 [informant] => Balmain_Tiger [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 30 [ratings] => 6 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => toughstuff )

Any excuse for a drink! Over 80% of Australia is currently in drought, and having grown up in a semi-arid rural town in NSW, I sure appreciate those downpours when they finally arrive. Good one.

Wonderful write. I now livein a desert and understand the abscence of rain. I also grew up in a farming community and understand the farmer and the drought bless them all!! Its nice to see someone mention the farmer.
