Array ( [sid] => 12459 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => Roll Call for America [time] => 2003-02-12 01:00:00 [hometext] => We need to open our eyes, be aware of what is going on around us. We need to gather our families close, hug our children and tell them how much we love them,(for you, Nessa) and reach out to our neighbors. We also need to be in prayer for our president. [bodytext] => Our journey seems all too familiar of late;
Our road is tear-stained and worn.
The valley is dark, but alas, we must wait;
With emotions that are ragged and torn.
Great sadness engulfs us,
As the break of each day,
Unveils additional sorrow,
Our country is suffering;
Our hearts agonizing in prayer,
We are fearful of each new tomorrow.
Seven souls soared with angel's wings;
On that fateful day;
To heights above and beyond.
A voyage through the stars and portals unknown;
Breaking the human bond.
We say farewell to these loved ones;
Sadly, now but a memory.
Their mission is over;
their passage diverted;
From earth to eternity.
Can't you hear the rolling thunder;
Would you not agree;
God is demanding our attention;
America; He continues to keep us on our knees. [comments] => 8 [counter] => 180 [topic] => 19 [informant] => Dot [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => InspirationalPoems )

As all things related to America I feel a need to speak out...
For starters this was very beautifully written. However some Americans tend to be blind to the fact how great their lives really are. Yes... your 6 astronauts along with 1 Israeli Astronaut died and yes there was the terror attacks. They are all horrible things, but its not like the world is caving in. A 1000 Iraqi children die every week because of the embargoes imposed on them because Hussein wont fall in line with the 'rules'.
What happened Sept 11th happens every day on a smaller scale in countries like Israel, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kosovo, Chechnya... the list goes on. Once again a great poem, but your people need to stop living in fear, stop focusing on the bad things and realize how blessed they really are... I hope u understand

Thank you, Bobo for opening my eyes and ears. You are absolutely right. We do need to give thanks for our freedoms, and everything else we enjoy. I know that people and children in other countries are starving, abused, killed and other terrible. I'm so sorry for the children, and I ask God to protect and guard the little ones. I'll be more thankful from now on because of your words. Thanks. Dot

I am against this WAR. It's not right for any soldier to have to go over to a foreign and die. It doesn't matter, we all can protest against this war and still not be heard. I don't think what President Bush is doing is right. I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Although the people of Iraq need to be free from this war monger, we as a people shouldn't have to sacrifice the lives of others. This world should be at PEACE not WAR.
