Defense Mechanisms

Contributed by justme03 on Monday, 14th August 2006 @ 06:58:15 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

I scratch at the surface
just enough to release
the pain inside.
I sit inside my closet
cause' it's a nice place to hide.
I dress in clothes
that dare you to break
down the wall, or
just to pretend I don't
exist at all.
I slip so easy from
one character to the next.
Fitting so easily
like a puzzle piece
for you to connect.
I have a mask
for every occasion.
It is only a simple
persuasion
to try and fit in.
Everything I am
is a defense mechanism.
For you are the predator
and I am the prey.
But natural instincts
permit me to get away.
