How do we overcome Grief

Contributed by jerseysue on Monday, 14th August 2006 @ 03:01:17 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

Fate can be cruel, alas a bitter pill,
It makes us hard , yes give us strong will,
No not old or feeble does this make us be,
Grief opens our eyes to what we must see,

That life still goes on, though our heart it is broken,
Our bodies feel withered, but our eyes we should open,
To all of the things that we took for granted,
Before the seeds of death they were planted,

Happiness and love we shared,
Family , children for whom we cared,
We feel alone, but we should not,
For myriads of memories have we got,

Wrapped up in our family, and our friends,
Our heart like stone, will repair, it will mend,
Take some comfort in what has passed,
For the love we shared will always last,

We can't live forever , its not in our fate,
But live for now before its too late,
For you know you have loved, but now you have lost,
But you are important, whatever the cost,

So look at yourself , and shout out loud,
I am still here , alone but so proud,
I don't want sympathy, just want to belong,
Be part of life, like I have been all along,

No fool am I, for I have wisdom born of pain,
My grief hardened heart can be reborn again,
Kindness given will help me blossom and grow,
I am a widow, this is true, for I know.

I am going to give a copy of your poem to my mother. My Dad died a few months ago and my mother is full of sorrow and grief. Your poem is so inspirational and filled with the kind of strength that could be helpful and beneficial to her. I wish I could have written this poem for her. Thank you for such a wonderful poem.

Such simple and yet profound wisdom lie within those lines ..

Exceptional piece of wonder, beauty and truth here, Sue.
You managed in poetic thought to inspire, beyond heights
we seem able to fathom when we've lost someone ..

Beautiful piece, hun.

That's a sad loss Sue, but there's plenty of resilience and sheer hopefulness in this post.
