the lights glinting off my golden hair

see the movement
as the muscles move
a smooth grace

I was working in a nursing home (not the best audience or venue for cowboy poetry for they nod off in sleep, medication or have to be dashed out of room in the middle of performance for "needs" or "fits") and connected with this youthful looking 88 year old man who displayed a confidence I later found out was from his background as a rather important buinessman and mover 'n' shaker in his home town. And he charmed and danced with the ladies. Oh such a charmer of all. I asked him how he danced so magnificently without music. He told me, "I dance to the rhythm of my soul." Honest to God, that's what he said. This was a magnificent and beautiful write of your dancing to your soul. May I have this dance?

Ahhhhh... to dance, to soar, to achieve enlightenment!

Like Ken, this piece returned me to a previous moment (or rather, moments). Firstly, it reminded me of having read this, excerpted from Federico Garcia Lorca's The Duende: Theory and Divertissement:

"Naturally, when flight is achieved, all feel its effects: the initiate coming to see at last how style triumphs over inferior matter, and the unenlightened, through the I-don't-know-what of an authentic emotion. Some years ago, in a dancing contest at Jerez de la Frontera, an old lady of eighty, competing against beautiful women and young girls with waists as supple as water, carried off the prize merely by the act of raising her arms, throwing back her head, and stamping the little platform with a blow of her feet; but in the conclave of muses and angels foregathered there - beauties of form and beauties of smile - the dying duende triumphed as it had to, trailing the rusted knife blades of its wings along the ground."

It matters not one's age or circumstance or place or any-other-thing, when their spirit is set free. I believe fully that we are not meant to be contained, though unfortunately we often allow ourselves to be (as you so aptly point out, it tends to happen with great regularity on Monday mornings, for example). We should, as you suggest, dance when the inspiration to do so presents itself (and I intend dancing there in both the literal and figurative sense).

This, then, I see as a glorious tribute to self expression and freedom. Wonderfully done!

This is beautiful. I can tell that I'm not the
only one who thinks so. I believe you've hit
on something deep within the hearts of
most people. I believe that thing is a deep
desire to feel truly free if only for a moment.
Hats off and applause , you deserve it.
Truly , your friend , Doug.

I thought it was awesome. Lol I am not a person who dances soooooo can't connect fully on that level, but I connected in a different way. We all have things that our soul aspires to and we listen to it and enjoy it in that moment and forget about everything else, and although we will one day have to return to our regular life, and those evil Monday's, our souls will always hold on to those days that we simply danced, and let our spirits soar. A wonderful poem!
