Any nation that fails to root out this evil , is a shameless nation , committing heinous crime against humanity. [bodytext] => CHILD LABOUR

Child labour is a despicable evil in a society,
Sadly it persists in very many a country.
Children are valuable asset to a nation,
As they mould the future civilization.

At a time when they should be carrying books,
They carry, at construction sites, loads of bricks.
When they should be going to school to learn,
With heavy heart, they go to work place to earn.

When they should be having fun at their tender age,
They toil and sweat all day to earn meager wage.
When other children dash cheerfully to the play ground,
After hard work they return home like hunting hound.

The ‘other children’ go on outing and enjoy eating candies,
At a dingy place, the child labourers laboriously roll ‘beedies.’*
When others with uniforms, march to school beamingly,
Unkempt and untidy, they go to work quite unwillingly.

In many homes, they are cheap replacement for dish washers,
And in restaurants they are preferred for vacuum cleaners.
The poverty stricken parents sell them as bonded labourers,
Thus their fate is sealed; soon they are on streets as beggars.

The bodily injuries inflicted by their brutal masters,
Are telltale marks of cruelty of the diabolic monsters.
Seminars and conferences are organized and laws enacted,
But the abuse, a shame to humanity, sadly continues unabated.

They have but one childhood, once lost, it is lost for ever,
Like a bud that withers, before blooming into a flower.
Oh, God what crime these innocent children have done?
You too remain a mute witness to their plight, how sadden?

*Beedies—a tobacco product, a lower and crude version of cigarette.
