Array ( [sid] => 123916 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => pour me a shot [time] => 2006-07-31 18:14:29 [hometext] => this is one of my many poems struggling with my alcohol addiction [bodytext] => The bridges i've burned burn me everyday
the memories i've made will not go away.
I've left my world behind me and it's harder than i thought,
even if i changed my mind there is nothing left to cross.

I waste so much time and waste more wondering where it goes.
I started out too high just to end up this low,
so pour me another shot and hand me a beer,
if im going to waste time it's better not to care.

Memories fade with each and every drink-
it feels so good when i dont have to think.
the people i've hurt no longer matter.
I would use them all over again-
if they had something to offer. [comments] => 6 [counter] => 312 [topic] => 61 [informant] => lostindesire [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => selfstruggles )

I feel your heartache and sadness in this write. Sometimes things seem hopeless, but their really is light at the end of the tunnel. sometimes we have to burn all bridges before we can surrender. Our past is NOT our potential. God forgives us if we are truely sorry , repent and ask for forgiveness.Surrender and get help, Some bridges can be repaired ,some cant. New ones can be built, God bless you, Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs

this is BRUTAL honesty..
even for an addict to say..

I feel your pain friend..
and terrifyingly enough, am finding comfort in the closing 5 lines-
(enough said on that..)

Far too emotive and relevant.. you've cost me sleep with this-

Your poem is very well written, enlightening and so inexorably candid. Having seen this side of life in someone close to me, the content is difficult to read but gives great insight into mindset of addiction.

A powerful poem that really captures the selfish despair of addiction -a compex dependency that seems to dole out self-harm and pain to others in equal doses.
