From which my footprints lead
Curiously you decide to follow
To satisfy your need

Your feet continue forward
While your heart stays behind
Your pace starts to quicken
For riches you hope to find

A little while later
You will come to see
I continue to walk
With no one around but me

But what you don’t know
Is that He is always near
I forever feel his love
Even through my fear

I hear your footsteps quicken
But I don’t decide to run
You yell to give you money
But surely I have none

You think I walk alone
So you threaten for a fight
But He is always here
Even, this lonely night

I warned you, I wasn’t alone
And that you should leave
But since you saw I was alone
You thought it crazy to believe

You raised your fist
And quickly saw me fall
You searched my pockets
But found no money at all

To the Lord I prayed
Mostly out of spite
I apologized for your actions
This cold and “lonely” night

He spoke quite softly
Because he was by my side
“My child, you didn’t retaliate
For you swallowed your pride.”

He continued to speak
Quite gently for my ear
“All will be forgiven,”
As he shed a single tear

He helped me to my feet
As he took the pain away
The sun began to rise
As the start of a new day

He and I together
Continue along this road
But through your lonely eyes
I continue to walk alone.
