To: My special fan

She warmed up for the game
Knowing she had a special fan
Sitting in the crowd

But when she spiked it during warm-up
She heard no cheer
In her fan’s voice

All the comments out together
Couldn’t amount to her fans cheers
The voice she needed to hear

They passed the ball to each other
She did it worse than normal
Straining to her fan’s voice

The whistle blew
The game started
She played front row

We served it
They passed it back
She blocked it half-heartedly

When she rotated to the back row
Her voice wasn’t as strong as normal
Her fan’s voice still missing

Right after the opponent’s call for a time out was completed
Her eyes stung with tears
As she looked into the now blurry crowd

She wiped her tears away
Fighting the new ones
Knowing her fan hated to see her crying

Her mind pretended to hear the voice
Her fan’s voice
But it wasn’t real

She played correctly for awhile
Until she realized that voice
That voice wasn’t real

She missed a few serves
But they still had the lead
But she didn’t care

She hit the ball gently
The ball suddenly looking like her heart
One she didn’t want broken

The end of the game cam so fast
Her team cheering
Over their victory

When she was dismissed
She lifted her stuff that felt like 100 pounds
Her body seemed so weak

She walked through the doors
Her head hung low
She didn’t look at people’s faces

But when she heard a voice
The voice she had strained to hear
Then she looked up

His face was there
Glittering eyes and everything
He apologized for not being in the crowd

He hadn’t been let in
She felt bad for doubting him
For letting her team down

She was able to tell him they had won
But not that her heart was in it
And she felt her heart sink

She felt tears come too fast and they fell down her cheeks
He wiped them away and felt bad
But she told them they were tears of joy

And that she wanted nobody else [comments] => 1 [counter] => 172 [topic] => 14 [informant] => Gwyn [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => DreamsandWishes )
