Was the child’s cry
Daddy don’t you love me
Why Daddy Why?

What did I do?
Was I really that bad?
Daddy don’t kick me
Why are you so mad?

I cleaned my room
And made my bed
I ate my dinner
With nothing said

I helped my brother
Go to bed
Why Daddy Why?
Are you hitting my head

You sat in front
Of the TV watching the game
Every once in awhile
To get you a beer you’d call my name

I did what you asked
Quiet as a mouse
Now you are dragging me
All over the house

Why Daddy Why?

The saddest part of this poem is that it is true for so many children around the world. You did a wonderful job of capturing the entire scene, the child's life, pain and emotions. Tremendous!

Smiles,
Jennifer

Great poem! I'm sad to say it reminded me of my own childhood when I used to cry the same words. You've captured the feeling well with your perspective. Thank you for sharing this one.

A question no child should EVER have to ask. Sad, but true for some children. Well done to you for your efforts here. Thank you for sharing this. wrdz

You have a knack, Shari, of masterfully capturing the pain of the "God, I wish it wasn't sos" in life. Vivid with simplicity. This was simply magnificent in getting across the emotional destruction of an innocent child. Kudos
