Deftly drying tears and laundry
Sketching the future in pencil
Outlines of what might have been
Perfect bone structure on someone else
Finding fault with everything
Imperfection in bare threads
Ideas half formed
Innuendos on the menu
Sipping cocktails by the fireplace
Words tickle her tongue
Sincerity is not one of them
Fickle heart and attitude
Get her through the day
And she keeps her secrets to herself
Imagining him out there somewhere
Check the spelling and dial again
She can’t get through as usual
Getting nervous
Plays with her earrings
Trying to think straight
Scratching out a living in a wasteland
Where nobody gives a damn
Splashes her face with cold water
And takes a deep breath
To remind herself she’s still got a long way to go

Merry,

So personal, but yet still so elusive. This is a complicated internal maze alright, but does it lead to the heart, fickle or otherwise? or are the lines of the poem just thought-crows being buffetted apart on mental cross winds (mea culpa, its late). The wit is sardonic, sharp as a razor, but point the blade outward ! Still, the best cuts are self-inflicted.

Personally, I get through the day with good coffee and a couple rationalisations, maybe an after-work aperitif of denial and hope for the promise inherent in the new day.

Supoib, as usual.

Spike
