an insubstantial joust with death
an insipid and tame contest
the outcome assured
in an arena swarming with dusty echoes
and still more lost and dusty choices
in undistinguished darkness
with nothing solid underfoot
nothing palpable to assail
to render.. with the absence of logic

a mooring of idea and intent
without spectators
without clamor
utterly without glory
no lurid thirst after victory
nor greater lust after defeat
holding only at it's nerveless core
a tepid skepticism
canceling out belief
in one's instinct to survive
an ageless adversary
a timeless static mockery
trapped in cold laughter

so have I succeeded
in the unending middle-ways of my third decade
having had scores and scores of ideas
born out of sour cemented wisdom
curled in on itself
suckled on the morbidity of my bleeding heart

noting its non-rate

zooming to cosmic zeros of indifference
on limbs of contrition.. eyes fast shut against intrusive joy
as the sun rises listless and brave
to begin again, its revolving and weary salutation

If such be the sum of of all my days
life is then an impoverished joke
and death too great an anti-climactic event
to warrant serious attention...

a hesitant kick in the teeth-

Billy this is a most beautiful work of art,
but the Holder of the Stone is right too.
And I, as number 3 will try to offset the
philosophy with my own version to which E
dgar Poe would definitely take issue. It is a double Nonet.

Joy
For joy
We are meant,-
Not happiness,
Which is too shallow
It depends on events
That are so ephemeral,
If things go my way,- I'm happy,
If they go wrong, - I am unhappy;
***
Joy is far beyond bland happiness,
Which can fast become a nuisance,
Always rejoice in the Lord !
Depend not on events,
They are heralds of
Unhappiness,
Strive only
For pure
Joy

(Some may find this nonet disgusting.
But then - who cares?)

Enjoyed your poem greatly Billy
Cheers!
Elizabeth

(Nice Poe quote! Very befitting *winks*)

Holy mother of everything that is good and earthly, how I admire your mind! I am floored to a point of almost being mute. I know this
is laden with darkness and the audacity of it all has rendered me quite inarticulate, but I am ever impressed with your ability to
capture a thought through expression. God, Billy if this is not brilliance, I know not what is. And the bravery you continually embrace
astounds me beyond astonishment, really.

Not any one thing in life is the total sum of anyone's existence, methinks. It is not really how you live, but that you live that makes
all the difference. [If you know what I mean ...]. Your despair has been apparent, in more than one write. Always, with people who
must endure hardship, it is ever admirable [I am convinced], to still forge headlong into that unknown. To embrace an emotion,
like the one displayed in this piece and still look for the kindness. The hope. The softness we know shall be forth-coming.

Incredible depth and insight ever flows in and around your writes. You have much to be proud of. Even within an anguished,
confused and dark write. That you are able to recognize it, write about it and more so share that sentiment, is worthy of greatness.
No arguements.

~Breezy

evokes those feelings to say, now this is very thought provoking. Your poem builds up so many feelings in words, hard to comment, sort of like trying to explain words of feelings to write a poem. A lot of life in your poem, even if you call it a dark one. Read my feelings here Billy, I like this poem. 5 stars bud

Your poem evoked emotions of anger, acceptance, anguish and resignation. It was a difficult poem to read but was exceptionally well written.
