Seen in effortless slow motion
Dangling from a wing
Attempting to fly on a word
Love has that affect on her
Tireless desire of beating hearts
As long as breath has a wish
Her parched lips can manage a smile

Incandescent lights in her eyes
Burning like lamps in the desert
She sees his shadow on the wall
She knows his perfect profile
Longs to look into his eyes
Reflecting the sea she’s never seen
Unknown shade of blue

Veils flutter around her ankles
Draping her in perfection from head to toe
She dances for him and him alone
He taps his foot to the rhythm she creates
He trembles as she gets close to him
Holding his breath as she twirls away
Laughter ringing on her blood red lips

Two lovers in the shadows
Collecting cobwebs day by day
Twisting words into romance novels
They leap from page to page
She spins and dances in his dreams
And he keeps her from all harm
Inside the fairytale

Merry, this is one poem I would particularly like to know the context for/what inspired it, if just to connect a bit better with the material. Technically, well structured, smooth flowing (like that lovely lace), low key, but the images are sharp and well contoured.

Its been a slow read for a lot of poems this weekend, so I hope people do themselves a favour and read this and start on your back catalogue. I'm going to kick start it with a fiver.

Spike
