But not simply in aspects which you may imagine,
You have accomplished worth without model.
From arid earth you have nourished your garden,
Nurtured life from the land.
And there is much to be said for one
Who grows his food with his hands.
As you may not admit to yourself or to me,
The whole of you decided long ago the cycle would end
And you would become this man,
This man with the wrinkles around his eyes,
You can tell a great deal about a man
By the wrinkles around his eyes.
Yours boast depth, streaked outward from the side,
Much like the place where the suns rays reside.
They speak a life of laughter, a life of love.
Where those creased in the middle show concern not anger.
Somewhere in there is the meaning of life. However,
One need only consult the biological purpose of life
To know that you succeed!
Not only have you extended your progeny
You have fathered men!
As far as Darwin is concerned
You are complete! Right?
Though what we must understand
Is not an importance of inception
But a lease on this land.
Because an etching of you has been
Carved into me,
Like the blade of a knife,
Lovingly sheered, akin
To time.
For time is the blade and we
Sit on the edge,
The present marks a moment,
Infinitesimal,
Engraving each reality,
Presented as marks indelible of the past
With a view of the future:
The Unmarked Skin,
Foreseeable though unpredictable,
But you have prepared me,
I am prepared. [comments] => 0 [counter] => 213 [topic] => 23 [informant] => Benny14 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 3 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FamilyPoems )
For My Father

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
