See the way you sparkled with kindness and
There was so much warmth in your eyes
I used to look at you with love.

But now the pain won’t go away
And every time your eyes catch mine
The look is more like a pleading
And I don’t know if I can stay.

I used to smile at you each day
Your face was alive with laughter
Every time we were together
I used to smile at you with love.

But now days aren’t the way the were before
Something is completely different
When you smile your almost a million miles away
Your laughter is almost incoherent.

There used to be times when I wanted to be near you
But you were too far out of my reach
But now that you’re standing right next to me
I’m starting to wish that I could leave.

Being like this has built up too much tension
I’m knotted up and don’t understand
Why you can barely talk to me anymore
Let alone even hold my hand.

There used to be something between us
But I feel like it’s trickling away
When you smile at me it’s like a plead
And I don’t know what to say.

"Used to be" usually does more'n trickle away,
It pleads 'n' pleads seemingly sincere 'till ya say goodbye, then it calls ya names! Been my experience anyway. Really enjoyed this "dear john 'r jane" like piece, kei.

The dissolution of something once great and beautiful is always desparing and, in the end, incomprehensible. How do we make love stay? How can we not stand to be with someone we once merged with on a spiritual level ? where has our special language gone? Easy to see the faults, too hard to explain them. You summed up all this and more in a terrific post.

Spike
